Michael Krieger is a Los Angeles based attorney with Willenken Wilson Loh & Stris. He has practiced high technology business and intellectual property law for 20 years, focusing on strategic counseling, litigation strategy and preventive methods to both secure and exploit clients' key IP assets. His clients have ranged from start-ups to industry leaders and government entities. Internationally, in addition to private clients, he has advised on intellectual property for the Brazil Software project and the United Nations and provided strategic counseling to several international software/web initiatives. He also has served as an expert
in technology litigation.
With degrees in mathematics (B.S., Caltech; Ph.D., UCLA) and law (UCLA), Mr. Krieger was on the MIT Mathematics and UCLA Computer Science faculties and also a Fulbright Scholar (Brazil-UFMG/Computer Science) prior to practicing law. Combining knowledge of the law and new technology, he was involved early on in public key encryption, domain name/trademark conflicts, Internet governance (including acting as personal advisor to Internet pioneer Jon Postel as he oversaw the US government's privatization of Internet administration, and is deeply involved in open source software issues.
Dr. Krieger has been a member of Executive Committee of the Intellectual Property Section of the California Bar and was Editor-in-Chief of its journal, "New Matter." He is a member of the National Taskforce on Knowledge and Intellectual Property Management and serves on several boards including the Caltech/MIT Enterprise Forum, as well as the editorial board of "Cyberspace Lawyer." Eight years ago he launched the nation's first entrepreneurship/computer science course for UCLA's Computer Science graduate program which he continues to teach as a public seminar series.
